Course Description 

This course is designed for students who have not previously studied Spanish.  Students will focus on introductory vocabulary, the fundamentals of grammar, and cultural awareness of the Spanish-speaking world.  Students will read, write, speak, and listen to the Spanish language.  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to effectively communicate in Spanish at an introductory level.    

 

Materials

Students should have a folder or binder to keep handouts organized, their computers, and a pencil. 

 

Grading Policy                                                                                                                                  

Grades will be determined by unit exams, quizzes, projects, homework, and classwork.  The midterm and final exams will be comprehensive and worth 10% of the semester grade.      

 

Students are expected to complete assignments by the designated due date.  If a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to get any missed assignments from the teacher.  Make-up work will be accepted only if the student has an excused absence.  Students have one day for each day absent to make-up missed work, up to 5 days.  Any assignment or test that was pre-announced shall be made up the day the student returns to school.

 

 

Grading Scale

A = 93-100

B = 85-92

C = 77-84

D = 70-76

F = 69 and below 

 

 

Class Expectations:    

 

STUDENTS WILL:    1.  Be on time and prepared for class every day

                                    2.  Show respect to everyone in class:  teachers and peers

                                    3.  Use computers for class activities only

                                    4.  Employ a growth mindset and put forth their best effort daily

 

Academic Integrity

All students are expected to turn in original work.  Dishonesty in academic work, including cheating, academic misconduct, or plagiarism is unacceptable.  When information from outside sources is used, proper credit must be given to the original source.  Submitting work that has been translated using on online English-Spanish translator site is not a student’s original work, and such work will be graded as a 0%.
