Drawing and Painting

Drawing and Painting

Drawing and Painting is a studio course designed for those who are interested in learning more about drawing and painting techniques.  Drawing pencils, color pencils, pastels, crayons, water colors, acrylics and texture painting are some of the media used.  Elements and principles of design will be further explored and incorporated into each assignment.  Projects may take approximately 1 to 2 weeks to complete.  Each assignment will be introduced with objectives the students are expected to achieve.  Art history and cross curricular standards will be included whenever possible.
Reading and writing will be a springboard for several assignments, such as, children's literature, poetry, sign language, and story quilts.  Students will get the opportunity to share some of their art work to the Don Gill and Charlotte Lappla Elementary students on a special field trip coordinated with the librarians.  Presentation to a young audience is a large portion of this particular assignment.  Both the elementary students and high school students really enjoy and benefit from such an experience!
In this course motivation, participation, and respectful behavior are expected and helps earn one a higher grade and vice-verse.  It is expected that each student cleans up after their work.  It is not up to the art teacher or custodians to pick up after the art students.

Pre-requisite: Introduction to Art.
