Color and Design

Color and Design

Color and Design students will explore the elements and principles of design in an effort to create various bold patterns.  Versatile patterns and designs are essential for enhancing ads, flyers, bulletins, newsletters, menus, and so much more that I couldn't name them all!  Students should have fun experimenting with different media and techniques.  In addition to the elements and principles, art history and cross curricular lessons will be incorporated whenever possible.

Ceramics is incorporated into a marking period of the Color and Design course.  It introduces pottery making through various types of construction.  Pinching, coiling, slabbing, draping, additive sculpting, subtractive sculpting, and wheel throwing are some construction methods introduced.  Various glazings and texturings  will be explored.  Kiln safety and careful pottery handling will be exercised.
This course will
enable the student to have more experience in throwing on the wheel.  The student will also be challenged to become more advanced in hand building projects with more freedom to create unique stylistic clay projects.

As in all advanced studios, it is expected that the student be a positive role model for all other art students.  The student needs to be motivated, participate, and display a respectful attitude to increase his/her grade.

Pre-requisite:  Introduction to Art.
