Bio: My teaching degree is in from Mansfield University specializing in Special Education.

I have been teaching Life Skills Support/Multi-disabilities, in Wellsboro since December of 1991, prior to that I was teaching for BOCES in Elmira, NY in a Multi-disability classroom.

You can make any job you have fun or a drag by your attitude, I try to have fun.  Yes, there are days where it can be exhausting, but it is great being here with people around me.

I do not think of the students as having a learning disability, but I look at their abilities and try to build upon those strengths.

I enjoy being with high school age students and how they mature, from when they first enter to when they graduate.  It is bittersweet seeing them leave, hoping that they have gained the skills they need to be a success in whatever they pursue.

I did not start out looking to be a Special Education teacher.  I was introduced to kids who had varying degrees of abilities while doing an on the job training program at a horse facility that did a handicapped riding program.  While there, I saw people who were so excited when a child picked up the reins when the horse they were sitting on shifted its weight from one foot to the other.  I later discovered, this child today would be considered autistic, and have them aware of something going on around them is a big deal.  I also worked with a young man who had been in an auto accident. He was a huge horse enthusiast before the accident, and afterwards he was paralyzed from the waist down. Helping him ride again with supports was an overwhelming feeling.
